Commanding officer: Major Daniel Wilson Holman.
Holman had previously served as a Major in a an infantry regiment. He was Born 7 March 1836 Lincoln County, TN and passed away March 27, 1910, in Fayetteville, TN. Holman served as lieutenant US army 1857-61. Promoted to Lt. Colonel of the 1st Tennessee Cavalry Regiment 1861-62. After that he was commanding officer of this battalion. Then Holman did staff duty in East Tennessee. During the postwar era he was a lawyer.
The battalion was organized on 13 October 1862 and in February 1863 consolidated with Douglass Battalion (see above) to form the 11th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment. The battalion took part in the battle of Murfreesboro on 31 December 1862. After the battle in the spring of 1863 it was engaged in scouting and skirmishing south of Nashville.
