Commander: Col. Thomas Alonzo Napier
Napier enlisted in November, 1861, and served as an infantry captain. Captured at Fort Donelson he escaped from Johnson’s Island in April, 1862. He was killed at Parker’s Cross Roads on December 31, 1862.
The battalion was organized in December, 1862 with five companies mustered in at Waverly, Humphreys County, TN.
The battalion members were termed “guerrillas” in Federal reports. The battalion was commanded by Captain DeMoss until it merged into the 10th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment. DeMoss became colonel of that regiment.
