Commander: Captain Beanie Short
The command raided along the Cumberland River above and below the Cumberland-Monroe County line at Black’s Ferry. Short was from the lower end of Turkey Neck Bend and a farmer in the Spearsville community at Pea Ridge.
According to oral tradition Short was a regular Confederate soldier for a while. Short was tracked for four years by Union irregulars and they finally caught up with him. He was murdered in his sleep in May, 1865 with companion Bill Ashlock. Both were buried in a small family graveyard on Kettle Creek.
