N0. 337 CIW CHAPTER 17 VIRGINIA 27TH BATTALION CONFEDERATE CAVALRY PARTISAN RANGERS (MOUNTED RIFLES; ALSO TRIGG’S CONFEDERATE BATTALION PARTISAN RANGERS)

The unit started out as Trigg´s Virginia Partisan Ranger and re-designated the 27th Cavalry Battalion in September 1862 with seven companies, later increased to nine. It was in July 1864 used as nucleus for the 25th Cavalry Regiment containing 240 soldiers.

Served in General Hodge´s and W.E. Jones´ Brigade and participated in engagements in East Tennessee and western Virginia.
