Commanding officer: Lt. Colonel Elijah V. “Lige” White
After the war White lived in Leesburg, Virginia. He helped founding and was second president of the People´s National Bank there. A well-to-do merchant he was also a Hardshell Baptist preacher.
White served in Turner Ashby´s command before he in January 1862 received permission to organize a company for service on the border, Captain Elijah V. White’s Co., The White Rebels, Virginia Cavalry. The battalion was organized in the fall of 1862 with six companies. It served with the Laurel Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia.Co. D, Captain James F. Trayhern’s Co. had mustered in with Major Robert White’s Battalion Virginia Partisan Rangers, which was later served as 41st Battalion Virginia Cavalry.
