N0. 349 CIW CHAPTER 17 VIRGINIA MORRIS’ INDEPENDENT CONFEDERATE BATTALION CAVALRY PARTISAN RANGERS

Commanding officer: Captain Z.T. Morris

Companies: 3

The unit was organized in 1865 behind Federal lines in Eastern West Virginia. It seems not to have contained more than 50 officers and men and not to have been officially recognized as a Partisan Ranger unit.

It was after mustering in attached to the Department of Northern Virginia. After mid-March there are no reports of the battalion. It was probably Hounshell’s Battalion Virginia Cavalry Partisan Rangers (see underneath) when commanded by Captain Morris.
